Please read the guidelines carefully before submitting to Cold Creek Review.

Cold Creek Review currently accepts poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and art (traditional and digital, including photography). While we are partial to submissions that demonstrate examples of troubled emotion, we accept work in almost all styles. Our interests include work that invigorates a feeling of melancholy long after finishing the piece and anything that makes us do more than think. We want your submission to leave us paralyzed and distressed. We challenge you to alarm us.

We do not accept work that depicts a strong sense of racism, violence, or erotica.

At this time, we publish issues on a quarterly basis at the end of each month (March, June, September, and December). We also publish The Shallows every six months (January and July), which is a themed issue that separates itself from the senses of melancholy and emotional disruption. We accept submissions on a rolling basis and will fit your submission into the next quarterly release. If your submission has been declined, please wait four months before submitting again.

We do not accept previously published work. We encourage simultaneous submissions, as long as you are quick to notify us if your work has been accepted elsewhere.

For poetry, submit 3-5 poems.

For fiction and nonfiction, submit a piece no longer than 4,000 words.

For art, submit 1-3 pieces and a short blurb about each piece that documents the creation process, where you found inspiration, and so forth.

All work should be attached in a single DOC, DOCX, PDF, TXT, JPG, JPEG, or PNG file. With your submission, please include a third-person bio in the body of the email and a picture of yourself as an attachment.

If you think your submission is a good fit for The Shallows, the biannual issue of Cold Creek Review, please read its mission statement and include “The Shallows” in the subject of your submission.

We are eager to respond in a timely manner. You should expect a response within six weeks, sometimes even sooner. If you have not heard from us after six weeks, you are more than welcome to query the status of your submission.

You agree to grant Cold Creek Review first serial/electronic rights, as well as electronic archival rights, while the author/artist of the work retains copyright upon publication. You must also agree that, if the work is published subsequently (online or in print), credit to Cold Creek Review is granted.

At this time, Cold Creek Review does not offer payment. However, we will do our best to promote your work after publication and nominate your work for various literary awards, such as the Pushcart Prize and the Best of the Net anthology.
