The water is a beautiful rope
Around the darkened edges.
It pulls leaves into its nooses,
Into its soft, colorful voids.
When we swim we breathe
In the dust of ancient mammals,
The blood flow of record snows,
Even the boy who drowned here
His body still hidden
Among the speckled stones.
